Rev. John P. Hoffman, Pastor
Jefferson Avenue and West WashingtonUnited Methodist
Churches
The Jefferson Avenue and West Washington United Methodist Churches
are actively expanding their outreach in the neighborhoods of
Washington. The congregations of both Churches have watched the steady
spiritual and social decline over the last several years. Drug-related
street violence and substance abuse crimes appear to be at the heart
of the community indifference that is evident. Dealers of drugs and
human indignity abound in just about every block and willfully
denigrate the community’s standards of self-respect.
In conjunction with the Turning Point II Outpatient Program at
Washington, a licensed Drug and Alcohol treatment program, the "From
Pews to Streets" project is designed to reach out and actively engage
families and their children and mentor them to be the instruments of
change the neighborhoods so urgently need. We believe that education
and a renewed family stewardship of the community can stem the rampant
moral decline. This outreach effort is the tool for rebuilding
neighborhood moral fabric and saving the soul of the community.
